My dog's eyes have gooey discharge that keeps coming back. Why?

This is a sign of conjunctivitis. It may have developed from allergies or an eye irritant like smoke or pollen. You can wipe the discharge from the eyes with a warm wet cloth, and use sterile eye drops to flush out the discharge. Since the discharge is pussy Pepper has an infection that would clear up more quickly with prescription eye ointment. I recommend an exam with your veterinarian. They will examine the eyes and may stain them to check for a corneal injury and also will check to see if Pepper has normal tear production. Dogs with dry eyes can be more prone to conjunctivitis. Hello. Thank you for using PetCoach. My guess is that Oscar could have keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) which is basically "dry eye". This is not necessarily serious, per se, but needs to have long-term medication to manage/control it. It is easy to test for this - a simple tear test that your vet can do in the office in just a few minutes. Poor Pippa! I definitely see the discharge in the inner corner of her eye, and a little bit of redness. You should definitely have her examined by a vet as soon as possible, because eye issues can turn into emergencies very quickly. The discharge can be due to conjunctivitis, a foreign body, or even a scratch in the cornea (this condition is dangerous as it can quickly progress and even cause a dog to lose their eye). In the meantime, you can get Pippa an E-collar (or "cone") to prevent her from scratching the eye and causing further damage and apply artificial tears to the eye two to three times per day. Based on the pictures, I suspect that Willow may have an eye infection or dry eye. I would recommend having Willow examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may need antibiotic eye drops / ointment or dry eye medication. I would recommend that the vet stains her eye and checks to see if she has dry eye by using a Schirmer Tear Test. Dry eye can result in the discharge in the picture you posted and can require more than just Artificial Tears to treat. (That would be more common than an allergy problem especially since only one eye is affected.) Hello. If this is a new symptom, or a worsening of an earlier condition, or if the discharge is associated with facial rubbing or pawing at the eyes, and there is any redness to the sclera ( whit part of the eye ) then you should have Molly examined by your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Molly may have allergies, an infection or a condition called dry eye that all require a different treatment. It is best to know exactly what the problem is so that the correct treatment can be started. The sooner the better because if serious enough, some eye conditions can lead to serious pain & discomfort as well as loss of vision. I hope you can have her seen soon.
