My dog has a bump with a scab on her eyelid. What should I do now?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

We noticed something on Carlies upper eyelid. It looks like an injury as it looks to be a scab on the top of the bump. What should we do? She seems fine no changes in anything still her happy go lucky self. Its been there for about 4-5 days

I actually think this looks more like a chalazion, or a blocked/infected eyelid gland. Sometimes these resolve without specific treatment and warm compresses can help, but other times surgery is necessary. A traumatic wound is possible but probably wouldn't be raised. If it still does not seem to be resolving in the next few days I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian.

The most common reason that we will see white bumps develop on the edge of the eyelid is something called a chalazion. This is similar to a stye, but is not generally inflamed or painful. Sometimes we will use antibiotic eye drops or ointment if the area is red, but they will normally resolve on their own (but this can sometimes take a couple of months). Sometimes using a warm washcloth on the area for a few minutes twice a day can help, but some dogs do not tolerate this well. If the area continues to get larger, appears red or irritated, or does not resolve in a couple of months, I would certainly recommend having your veterinarian examine it.

It may be a cyst or local infection/irritation. Monitor for rapid change or growth, discharge or bleeding as well as discomfort. Ideally, he can be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause and provide the appropriate treatment. If he is pawing or rubbing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the vet.

My dog has a red bump under her eyelid that popped. What's wrong?

I am afraid that this red mass looks like a tumor or multicystic mass. This is definitely something that needs to be seen by a vet as it a) keeps your dog from closing his eye lid which can damage the eye to the point of losing vision (will dry out the cornea), and b), tumors can grow invasively, ie destroy the eye. Your vet will examine the mass, possibly take a little bit of tissue to examine under the microscope or send in to a pathology lab and then, depending on the findings, discuss treatment options, which could include removal of the mass alone (if possible), medication to remove it or make it shrink, or even removal of the eye. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian soon.

What is this pink bump on my dog's eyelid? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would continue to monitor it for now as this may just be an area of infection or inflammation. It could even be a growth though thankfully most of the eyelid growths in dogs are benign. I would continue to monitor it for now. If it goes away then great. However, if it does not go away and actually continues to grow, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. What to do for a white bump on my dog's eye until the vet opens?

Lesions like this can be a few things including a skin tumor, an ingrown hair, an infection or a blocked pore. You may monitor this lesion for the next week. Protect the area from scratching or rubbing with an elizabethan collar if needed and you may apply a warm (not hot) compress twice a day for 5 minutes. Check the lesion every day. My dog's eye has a bump, scab fell off. Should I be concerned?

The area does look a bit irritated. If the swelling continues, the scabbed area worsens or doesn't heal, or there is discharge/the eye can't stay open then I would have it looked at by a vet to rule out injury/infection. Keeping the eye clear and preventing Odie from pawing at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar is best.

My dog has a growing, fluid-filled eyelid bump. What should I do?

Hello, thank you for your question about Chloe. Based on the photos that you've attached and the symptoms that you are describing it sounds like Chloe may have a mass/tumor on her eyelid. These are generally benign and do not lead to systemic problems. Other possible causes include a cyst or local infection. Since this lesion is growing in size I would recommend having Chloe seen by your veterinarian. If it continues to grow it may lead to problems on the surface of her eye. Your veterinarian can examine Chloe and determine the need for diagnostics such as ocular examination and potential removal of this lesion. Hope this helps!
