Dog's eye won't close after a fight. Is it an injury or Horner's?

Horner's syndrome does not cause any harm and there can be multiple causes. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Buffy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Ear infections can lead to this syndrome and trauma as well. If Buffy managed to run into something or fall and hit her head, this could also have lead to the syndrome. This will likely resolve on its own over the next week or so. Horner's syndrome is a collection of symptoms that result from problems with nerves responsible for the movement of the eyelids and the pupil. Horner's syndrome in a puppy would be extremely rare. It is difficult to tell from the picture if one or both eyes are affected, and I cannot see much of the eyes or pupils. If you came to this diagnosis because he is holding one eye closed, there are some things that are more likely, such as a corneal ulcer or conjunctivitis. I always recommend taking eye problems seriously, as they can become rapidly worse. So I do think a trip to your veterinarian is warranted. Hello, sorry to hear about Sandy. It does sound like this could be Horners syndrome which can be idiopathic or caused by trauma, a mass, or a brain lesion. Because of how long it has been going on, Sandy should be evaluated by your veterinarian to test for other neurologic deficits. If there are none, then this may be idiopathic horners which may take a long time to resolve. In the interim, Sandy should be having eye lubricant applied into her affected eye as most often, these dogs are unable to blink. Hope this helps and best of luck

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I would recommend having the I examined by a veterinarian so that further testing can be done to rule out possible causes. There could be trauma to the eye itself or an infection. In order to rule these out I would suggest having the vet take a look at the eye. For trauma to the surface of the eye, a simple stain test is performed to see if there is any retention of the stain on any area of the surface of the eye. I would have your veterinarian check Hercules' eye out. If he was rough housing with the other dog he can have a scratch on his eye. If this is the case it would require medication to help heal it. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

It sounds like your pet Daisy has a very common situation here which is a chemical burn or scratch on her cornea (surface of her eye). This is common after being groomed because shampoo or condition can get on the eye and isn't washed off properly or promptly. Poor girl. I would recommend taking her to your local vet as soon as you can to get her eye examined, tested and treated. Most pets with this condition recovery fully within 7 days time, as long as they receive treatment quickly. I hope that your pet Daisy resolves her eye issue soon! Best of luck and take care.

The pupil can constrict with bleeding or inflammation in the anterior chamber of the eye, blunt trauma, or a scratch to the surface of the eye. If you see blood, if your dog is squinting or seems painful, or if there is discharge from the eye I’d recommend traveling to see an emergency vet if at all possible since some conditions could compromise vision if left untreated. Otherwise I think you could monitor her for a day but if the pupil does not return to normal within 24 hours I’d recommend seeing a vet.
