Recugel not healing dog eye dots from scratch. Is his sight at risk?

A blurry spot can mean that you pet either has a scar on the cornea or it could indicate a corneal ulcer, depending on how this looks. There is also the potential it could be nuclear sclerosis, if it is a deeper opacity that you are seeing. Please submit a photo of the eye in question for clarification on what this likely is, or have your vet do a physical exam to confirm. If it is a corneal ulcer, it needs to be confirmed with an eye test through your veterinarian and then treated with medication. Corneal ulcers however cause excessive blinking and eye discharge. Nuclear sclerosis is common in older cats, and I'm not sure how old your cat is, but they don't require any treatment.. And corneal scars are basically scarring from a previous corneal injury, which typically are permanent and don't require treatment. I wish you the best moving forward with your fur baby. Take care.

Ouch! Corneal ulcers hurt. I would recommend taking Rusty into see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Eyes heal quick or get bad quick. The vet will stain the eye to see how bad the ulcer is. They will prescribe drops, pain meds and oral antibiotics most likely. I always like to re-stain corneal ulcers in 48 hours to make sure that they are healing. I like to use an e-collar on the dogs to keep them from scratching at the eye. An infected ulcer can cause serious problems including loss of the eye. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is extremely difficult to say what is going on with Jules's eye. Eyes need to be examined with an ophthalmoscope in order to get a good view. Just looking at a photo from one angle is not enough. I cannot tell if the issue is on the cornea or actually inside the eye. It is best to have him examined in person by your vet so they can use the ophthalmoscope to get a good look. If it is on the cornea then it may be just a scar from a previous injury (one you may not have even noticed). It could also be what is called a "Florida spot". If it is inside the eye it could be an iris cyst or even an iris melanoma. Again, I really cannot tell from a photo. It is not an emergency but try to get Jules to your vet in the next week or so. It is hard to say exactly what the issue may be with Draco's eye without performing an ocular exam on him and running a few tests on the eye first, but I can offering a possibility. Spots on the cornea (clear part of the eye) itself can indicate a corneal ulcer or breaks in the cornea. These can be painful and uncomfortable. You may notice tearing or frequent discharge from the eye. Your veterinarian can diagnose a corneal ulcer with an ocular exam and a few tests. It is treatable with medication. The photo didn't come through. If the scratch is on the skin it should heal on its own. Make sure it is clean and that your dog doesn't lick it. If the eye is scratched and your dog has squinting and eye discharge then I would take it to the veterinarian for treatment. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gizmo! The cloudiness likely just indicated the edema in the cornea. That can go away quickly. Superficial (not deep) corneal ulcers heal in 5-7 days. Since you can still see the ulcer and since it was deep I do not think the ulcer itself is healed yet, just the surrounding cornea.
