My dog's quick exposed, paw fractured. Continue dressing or air?

Yes, it looks slightly inflamed but it should be absolutely fine. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). If signs do not resolve in the next 48 hours a check up would be required as antibiotic ointment may be needed.

That's a fair question, but not one I could fully answer without knowing her case as well as your veterinarian. I'm sure the main reason they want to x-ray your dog again is to check that it healed properly before advising about walking her again. Sometimes these fractures don't heal and will need further treatment. The fact that she doesn't seem painful is encouraging that it has healed well, but it's still possible that it didn't. I think it would at-least be worth it to have her rechecked by your vet. We can often tell a great deal from physical exam. I would then ask your vet how necessary they think the x-ray is. It would be good to ask what the potential complications are and what would be the treatment for those complications. For instance: If Nahla had a non-healing fracture, they might recommend surgery to correct it. If surgery is not a feasible option for you (because of money), then the x-ray would not really be worthwhile. Vets usually offer the best treatment recommendations for their patients, then scale it back as necessary. That's likely the situation here. I hope that helps and Nahla is all healed.

You can use both. A thin layer of iodine ointment will serve to help prevent infection. The Woun’ dres can be applied over it. If Caesar is likely to lick it, I recommend an e-collar. He may chew and eat a bandage if he isn’t wearing an e-collar. Bandages are also tricky because they can trap moisture and can tighten, cutting off circulation to the paw. I would continue applying both three times a day until the nail bed appears completely dry and scabbed over. You can place a toddler sock or a bootie over the paw when you take Caesar outside to pee and poop but I would avoid long walks for the next week. Good luck!

Ouch, poor Rupert! The quick itself should be left alone, but it appears in the picture that there is a long skinny piece of tissue or retained nail on the inner aspect of the quick. If that's the case, it will need to be trimmed back. If you're comfortable taking care of this yourself, you can trim that part back with a dog nail clippers (make sure you are comfortable with what you're doing and know what should and should not be trimmed - do NOT trim the quick itself as that would be very painfu for Rupert!). You can apply a gob of neosporin over the quick, and it may be helpful to cover that area with a clean sock for a few days, as the quick will be very tender, and will bleed easily. If you're not confident to do this yourself, bring Rupert in to the vet and they'll trim back any remaining nail tissue, and will likely apply medicated ointment and place a soft bandage. Monitor Rupert's nail bed over the coming week or two and make sure it is not getting red, swollen, or having discharge, which would indicate a nail bed infection requiring a vet visit and antibiotics. The first picture looks like the nail may be loose and broken, this will likely fall off and regrow if this is the case and although it would be uncomfortable as when we lose a nail ourselves, they usually heal uneventfully if infection can be avoided

Poor Paddt! Sometimes these nails need to be removed behind the break. It's hard to give you the best advice without being able to examined the nail. I recommend to have Paddt examined by the veterinarian. He should also be wearing an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent any licking since this could make the nail infected. The area should be kept clean and dry and the exercise should be severely restricted until the nail is healed (no walks, running or jumping). Hi, provided the quick does not get infected, the nail will gradually grow back. I think just cleaning it and making sure it does not get infected will be enough. If you should notice any oozing or swelling/inflammation of the area, it could mean that the nail bed is getting infected and it is best to have Jaxon checked over. Also try to prevent Jaxon licking the wound. Hope this helps !
