My puppy's paw pad is irritated after a healed fracture. Should I worry?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | 6 months and 2 days old | 10 lbs

My 6 month old puppy fractured her paw, bones are healed, splint is off, today I noticed that her paw pad looks a little irritated, does this look to be a concern?

Yes, it looks slightly inflamed but it should be absolutely fine.
Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any).
If signs do not resolve in the next 48 hours a check up would be required as antibiotic ointment may be needed.
