Why is my dog overly excited, red eyes, panting with new puppy?

Hello, congrats on Dash. It is warm out and his panting is likely associated with the warm weather. The redness of his eyes could indicate stress, allergies, or an eye infection. If he has no discharge or squinting on his eyes and if he does not seem bothered by them, then this is likely normal. He does have more futures of a German Shepherd dog. I would recommend that you exercise him in the morning or evenings when it’s cooler so that he does not get too hot. Hope this helps and best of luck

No, this alone wouldn't indicate Cushing's, and would be odd for a puppy of this age. That said, exercise intolerance, fear/panic, stress, or underlying health issues can all cause what you are describing. I'd take Ann to your vet for a full workup just to rule out any serious health issues, and then from there see if you can find a behavioral trigger that may be causing stress or panic. Working on socialization and calming behaviors (focusing on a treat or toy, distracting with a game, moving to a quiet area to relax, etc) may help with stress triggers or panic triggers.

The older one is excited and interested in the new puppy. This will get better in a few days as they get used to one another and the newness wears off. All you can is try to let them get to know each other in a safe way and try to keep the older one calm when they interact

As your puppy grows and matures he will start to develop his personality. This can lead to higher activity levels and more playfullness. As long as he is still tail wagging, running, jumping and overall seems happy, he is likely just fine. After quick spurts of play, puppies can also have heavy breathing episodes, but it should only last for 1-5 minutes at the most. If your puppy seems like he is in respiratory distress, coughing, gasping for air, etc, then its best to have him evaluated by your vet. At that point I would suspect he may have an airway infection, underlying heart disease, or a laryngeal disorder. However, if your pupy is still playful, eating, drinking and normal acting, then he is likely just fine and is having over exerting moments of play. Just try to limit his play to no more than 20-30 minute intervals two times a day to keep him healthy. I hope this helps and best wishes with your new puppy Winter. Take care.

I would recommend taking Buddy to a veterinarian if we are still breathing heavy. They can get stressed and breath heavier from anxiety but my concern is that puppies this young can get sick and decline quickly. From the photo it appears your dog has a conformation abnormality of the lower eyelid called ectropion which makes the kid sag down/look droopy. I believe you are seeing the dogs third eyelid being exposed and also irritated due to this. In some cases we need to prescribe medication to help the area be less irritated and sometimes surgery is used to correct the area. This is less concerning than non stop panting, which could be a sign of lung disease (or severe anxiety). I would recommend a vet exam ASAP due to the panting and they can look at the eyes at this time as well.
