Why is my dog still energetic after exercise and wakes at night?

This is really common for his age! Try to keep him up later if possible but just remember he is young and has a hard time holding it for too long. Also he has a lot of energy which will improve as he gets older. Finally if y'all have a doggy day care in your area you may try to take him there once or twice a week to see if it helps to expend more of his energy.

Anxiety is huge and often requires anti-anxiety medication and always requires some form of training. In some instances, training will not be effective until you start some sort of medication so I recommend speaking to your vet. Finally, even though you do much more than many owners in terms of exercise (great work!), it still may not be enough for Stitch, depending on his breed and demeanor. Consider dog parks (once neutered), having him run along a bicycle, etc. Finally, give it time. Many breeds do not settle down until 2-3 years of age, but most eventually do settle down. Django sounds like he has quite the energy! Seeing as he is 3.5 months old, it is common at this age to have bursts of energy and periods of napping. This can be lessened by providing a lot of toys and enrichment in the house to keep him busy. Walking certainly helps but giving him plenty of toys to play with may also help reduce these bursts of energy. Eventually, Django will likely grow out of this but it will take some time. Hi there! Great question! The best thing you can do for him is CONTROLLED exercise. Meaning, you can take him for short walks on a leash. What we don't want is him running around freely, jumping or playing with other animals. If you can control the exercise that would be best and that way he won't be crazy! Take him for multiple short walks throughout the day. I would take him walking where there is not a lot of stimulation from other dogs. If you are finding he is still too "crazy" you can always call your vet and ask for a mild sedative however, vets try to reserve sedatives for severe cases. I hope this helps! Best wishes!

It's pretty common for new puppies Buddy's age to take a few weeks to transition to their new environment. These are two high energy breeds, and 9 months old tends to be a very active time for puppies. I would recommend exercising him as much as you can during the day - an hour or two of moderate exercise would be great. Work on teaching some behaviors like sit, look at me, and go to your place every day. Ignore whining as much as you can - whining is an attention seeking behavior and even a negative response can reinforce the behavior. There could be a few different things causing this. If he's a puppy, he may need to go to the bathroom -- take him out and but don't give him attention or play time. If he's an adult, it could be pain, habit, a medical issue causing him to need to get up to go to the bathroom, or accidentally reinforcing this behavior previously with play (or even by yelling at him - if he wants to interact he doesn't really care if you're happy or unhappy during the interaction). If he's elderly, he could be starting to have dementia (canine cognitive dysfunction) or any of the adult issues. So, if he's a puppy, I recommend the above, but if he's not a pup, I'd recommend starting with a vet visit and then ignoring him at night if nothing is wrong. Good luck!

Hello, and thank you for your question! You did not state the age of your dog, but I am assuming he is young. High energy is common for many young, large breed dogs. My advice would be to try to get his energy out throughout the day, through several hour-long walks and play sessions in the park. This will hopefully reduce his manic energy in the house! If you work all day and have minimal time, enlist the help of a dog walker or friend who can come by during the day to take Eldridge out for some fresh air.
