Why is my dog destructive, anxious, and misbehaving after walks?

If no improvement is seen 1-2 months after neutering him, I would recommend that you consider dog training for him which would for sure help in this case. Have a great day!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I have two comments for you. One is, he could be doing this for attention or because he is not getting enough exercise. Perhaps try extra time with practicing tricks or playing. An extra walk or run can also help keep boredom and pent up energy under control. 90% of the time, this is the issue. If you feel you are already doing a great job in these departments, consider crate training him so that he has “quiet time” while you’re working etc. The other comment is redirection. When he runs off with your shoe (or whatever) tell him no firmly and immediately offer something he CAN chew/play with. Then praise him and maybe play with that toy with him for a minute or two. If those are not working, it’s timw to involve a trainer. Best wishes to you and Stitch!

It sounds like Bongo has some generalized anxiety issues as well as some aggression issues. You have already done some good things to help get this behavior in control. Neutering will definitely help even though you may not see the effects of immediately. Trazodone is a great drug but works mainly for sedation and not as much to relieve overall anxiety. I would recommend speaking with your vet about starting Bongo on an anti-anxiety medication like Prozac. This may help him as well. I would also recommend working with Bongo on routine/common commands and exercising him frequently. Both of these things will help him feel more relaxed and secure. I hope this helps. Taking the toys could be a sign of dominance but it also could be jealousy. This may cause Lucy anxiety but if its normal behavior between the two, it might not bother her at all. Trazodone can help with anxieties, but honestly I don't think she needs it. She sounds like she is active and social, she's just a nutty female :) Neutering could help with dominance because he won't have the excess testosterone, but dominance isn't only from hormones, it is learned. If he is always fed first, greeted first and given treats first he has been taught he is the alpha. It is normal to wrestle and as long as no one is hurt, it isn't aggressive. It may sound aggressive, with growls and teeth showing, but usually they bite softly and it is just play. I would try to give them more things to do- more walks, more play times, to get out excess energy. They really sound like active puppies! I hope this helps- again sending more kisses to the babies!

Hello. A 2 year old un-neutered male dog will require LOTS of exercise to tire him out. You may just have to exercise him more. Also, neutering will decrease the amount of restless energy he has and is a good idea for other health concerns as well. Try taking him for longer walks, playing with the ball so he gets a lot of running in. Be careful not to perform any of these when it is very hot out, if it is more than 25-30 degrees do not run your dog.

Talk to your vet about getting him some anti-anxiety medication to calm him down enough to get the muzzle on. And frankly, even after he is neutered he’ll probably need something like that for daily use while you can do some counter-conditionung training. My favorite is trazodone as it is very safe, can be used long or short term, can be started and stopped, and can be given with certain other sedatives and anti-anxiety medications. This does sound like Rexxy has some separation anxiety. Some things that you can do to help him are to make sure he gets plenty of exercise, especially before you have to leave for an extended period of time; put him in a crate/kennel before you leave to prevent him from being destructive while you are away; and you may want to consider talking to your vet about medication for anxiety.
