Dog eats grass, won't eat food. Should I change her diet or add supplements?

Typically dogs eat grass because they have an upset stomach. This supplement will not be a benefit for Chloe. It won't do anything for her. I recognize your dog and know from previous questions that you are very diligent pet owner. She will be getting all the nutrients she needs from the diet you give her.

Some dogs like to eat grass! As long as they have good appetites (for dog food!) and are not frequent vomiters, there is nothing wrong with eating grass. I do recommend that Chopi is routinely dewormed for common intestinal parasites (often included in monthly heartworm preventatives) and that you do not treat your grass with any chemicals.

This may simply be her preference. If she is maintaining weight and behaving normally, there is likely no cause for concern. Eating grass, though, can sometimes indicate an upset stomach. Grass eating is one of those annoying habits that some dogs just tend to have. The cause of this is not really known, although there are a couple of theories as to the reason. You have already mentioned possible dietary deficiencies (or at least Rino might think he has one) or assistance with digestion. So long as Rino is not eating grass constantly, it is not likely to cause any serious digestive issues. You will likely continue to see occasional diarrhea and/or vomiting. It is preferable that he eats grass over unknown shrubs, as there are many toxic plants that grow in the wild. I would consider adding a probiotic to the diet in an attempt to try and make the stool a little firmer. I usually recommend Fortiflora as a good choice. It's possible that Lola may be having a bid of stomach discomfort. You might consider switching her to a diet formulated for sensitive stomach along with the addition of a multivitamin/probiotic supplement. While the grass itself may not hurt Lola, you'll want to be sure to consider any pest or week control that's been sprayed on the soil for the last year or so as well as any parasites that may be living in the soil.

I would have to guess that she may have some acid reflux causing her to have a sour stomach. Discuss with your vet about trying her on some antacids to see if this makes a difference. I would also try feeding her a light snack at night to keep some food in her stomach longer. If she is otherwise fine, then further testing likely isn't needed. I hope that this helps! This could indicate a mild case of stomach irritation called gastritis. Dogs have no need for chlorophyll. If she's eating a balanced commercial diet and absorbing it Chloe should be getting all the vitamins and minerals and needs. As long as Chloe is eating, drinking and acting normally you could watch her dog now. But if she stops eating, vomits blood or coffee-ground looking material, or seems painful she should get checked out by her veterinarian
