My dog is eating poop and acting needy. Is she sick or something?

Poor Luna! She could have an infection (parvo, etc) or a parasite. Since she has bloody stool and is lethargic, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can test a stool sample to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat the problem. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. Hope she gets better soon!

I am so sorry to hear about your dog! With a sudden change in behavior like this I would recommend having her examined by a vet to ensure there isn't a medical cause. Occasionally we can have diseases that cause a change in appetite/behavior such as this, so it is best to have her examined to ensure there isn't a medical treatment to resolve the issue!

This lethargy can be a sign of illness, but unfortunately it's a very general sign of many ones. Eating poop is so common in dogs. Licking his paws can be due to allergy. To keep Teddy from eating poop, pick up his poop right after he goes to prevent his access to it. Have him seen by a vet for the lethargy and paw licking.

Is this new behavior by your boyfriend or has your boyfriend just started to come around more? If so, Luna certainly could be stressed by this or protesting. Make sure Luna and your boyfriend get plenty of bonding time and maybe he can feed her, walk her or even give her some dog treats throughout the day to help. Whether he is new or not, you may consider putting a calming collar on her like adaptil or sentry. If This doesn’t work, I would talk to your vet about putting her on an anti-anxiety medicine like fluoxetine. I hope this helps!

I am so sorry to hear of these concerns for Nypsy. Changes in behavior such as increased anxiety and inappropriate eating can be an indication of a neurological issue. This could be a condition known as canine cognitive dysfunction (doggy dementia), lesions in the brain can also affect behavior and are more commonly suspected if there is increased aggression or the onset of seizures. The change in appetite could be due to a metabolic issue such as kidney disease, which can cause a pet to feel nauseous. These types of conditions would require bloodwork with your veterinarian to diagnose. Dental disease is also very common in older, small breed dogs. It can contribute to changes in food intake due to oral pain. I would recommend tempting Nypsy with some tasty treats such as boiled chicken or a little canned dog food. Also do not offer her any more sweet tea-sugar is not good for our pets and if Nypsy is suffering from some sort of metabolic issue it could make things worse. When you are able I would recommend taking Nypsy to your regular Vet for a thorough physical exam and possibly some bloodwork to rule out anything significant.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luna. I recommend that she sees an emergency veterinarian. Blood in the stool can be worrisome, especially if she is lethargic. Being a young dog, it is abnormal for her to be so quiet. There are numerous reasons that this could be happening to her. Parasites are common in young pets. More serious conditions such as hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and pancreatitis are also possible. The veterinarian will examine her and likely recommend diagnostic testing such as fecal testing, bloodwork and possibly x-rays. These results will guide treatment. I hope this information helps!
