My dog won't eat, has a hot nose, and seems sick. Should I see a vet?

I would recommend Oreo see a veterinarian for examination and blood work to start. Anorexia, or loss of appetite in animals is usually a sign of systemic illness, on a rare occasion it can be do to oral pain (usually from severe periodontal disease in small breed dogs). If these are the only symptoms I would monitor him a bit longer. Sometimes dogs can have some mild stomach upset that quickly resolves without treatment. If he does not eat in the next 24 hours, if he vomits or develops diarrhea, or if he seems very weak or lethargic then I would contact your vet.

To know if Biggie has a fever you need to take his temperature rectally with a digital thermometer. A fever in a dog is anything over 102.5 F. There are many causes for a poor appetite: Viral infection, foreign body, fever from infection or inflammation, intestinal parasites (the eggs are microscopic and can not be seen in the stool unless adult worms are passed), pain and many many other causes. Try taking Biggie's temperature. If he has a fever I recommend making an appointment today with your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Biggie a speedy recovery!

Those are a lot of symptoms, and it would be best to schedule a vet visit for your pup for a complete exam and to narrow down possible causes. Allergies, irritation, urinary infections, getting into something irritating, underlying illness or metabolic disease, etc can all be possibilities, so an exam is needed to try and figure out the problem. Be sure to make note of any other symptoms you are seeing, how long these have been ongoing, etc, as they will help your vet better determine what course of action to take.

The good news is that a dry nose means nothing in a dog, it's not used as a sign of illness. A dog's nose can go from wet and moist to dry just by sitting next to a heat source or in the sun. If he hasn't been eating his food for five days, then Gaspar needs to see a vet as soon as possible.
