First day eating after parvo: How much food and water for a weak stomach?

If your dog is recovering from parvo you should not be offering any foods other than his regular diet or bland meals of boiled rice and chicken as the other foods may cause the already irritated intestinal lining to become worse or prolong the irritation. If he is not eating his food there may still be some underlying pain or GI upset. You can offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken for a day or so, however if the lack of appetite continues or he does not begin to eat his food it is best to seek veterinary care.

I would not give anything raw as this has potential to cause a bacterial infection in any animal. It is best to keep him hydrated and stick to cooked egg or chicken and rice if he has an appetite. Hydration is key. If he is holding that much down without vomiting then you are doing well.

The poops look good for a dog with parvo. They should continue to get more solid as Oreo continues to recover. If he wants water, you can give him a bowl of water. I would only offer a few ounces at a time to avoid causing nausea. You can offer a few ounces of water or pedialyte every 2 hours. You can also start to offer moist food in small "meatball" sizes every 2 hours.

I would imagine she has some gastritis or inflammation of he stomach after the parco infection. Just regular canned puppy food would be fine. She may not like what you are feeding. Just getting some calories in her is important. If she is drinking on her own or eating canned food well, then you can stop with the Pedialyte - some dogs really don't like the taste. If she won't eat the canned puppy food (which would be best) you can try bland human foods like: *plain white rice *scrambled eggs * boiled chicken breast * plain pasta No butter, oil or spices on the food.

Hello. That is great that Captain still wants to eat. If there is no vomiting, then feed him his regular puppy chow. He should probably be eating 3-4 cups a day, but go easy by feeding small meals more frequently, perhaps 1/2 cup every 2 hours. If he vomits, cut back. The Royal Canin Giant Starter is a balanced diet on it's own. You do not need to, nor should you, feed anything else. Fruits are not good - too high in sugar. The egg and cottage cheese are probably fine but really not necessary. I understand you may be vegetarian but please understand that dogs are not and they need meat in order to survive. My recommendation is to only feed the Royal Canin. He doesn't appear to be too thin in the photos.
