My dog has a dry, peeling skin patch on her back. Is it dry skin?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 16 lbs

Hello, My dog seems to have a dry patch of skin on her back that appears to be peeling. It doesn’t seem to be hurting her- just some scratching every now and then. Just wondering if this is just a case of dry skin and if there is something we can pick up that can help it

It actually looks like a mild bacterial infection - I suggest you try this wound spray gel 3-4 times a day until healed. If no improvement after treating for about a week then you should have your vet check it.

This presentation could be due to a point of trauma or possibly a primary or secondary localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal infection). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem.
Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any).

That discharge and opening with the hair falling out indicates an infection. This may be from a bite or an allergy. I would have your vet check the area. IF there is a deeper infection under the skin causing an abscess then it will need to be open and flushed and given antibiotics to clear it.
Keep the area clean with soap and water until you get her seen

That sign could be related to a superficial skin infection (bacterial or yeast). Usually a medicated antibacterial shampoo preparation is enough to sort out the problem. My dog has a dry, scabby patch on her hip, no hair loss. What is it?

It's really difficult to know what this is without seeing it. Usually these scabby patches indicate an infection. It may be worthwhile getting some medicated pet wipes from the pet store and wiping the area twice a day. Usually these infections clear-up within two weeks by keeping it clean. If the lesion is not getting better, or is getting worse in the next week, then I recommend having a vet evaluate it a bit further. There are other potential causes of this that can get much worse if not treated soon. I hope that helps and Daisy gets better soon.

It looks like your dog has a skin infection so he should be examined and treated by a vet. He, likely, needs an oral antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory that your vet can prescribe. If the meantime, you can bathe him with a medicated shampoo, like Douxo Chlorhexidine. You could also spray the lesion with Vetericyn wound and skin care spray.

My dog has dry bumpy patches and hair loss on neck/back. What to use?

Judging from the pictures and your description, I suspect that D'Kota may have a skin infection or skin allergy. I would recommend the following products, which can all be found online quite easily: 1. Welactin omega 3 fish oil 2. Douxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved. 3. Malacetic conditioning spray and apply twice daily to affected areas until resolved 4. Essential 6 spot on by Dermoscent If there is no improvement or the infection worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made.
