Why is my dog dry heaving, stomach rumbling, yet still eating?

Poor girl. Unfortunately my major concern here is that Winnie may have a foreign body. I would highly recommend fasting her for 6hrs and then offer her a small portion of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte to keep her hydrated until you can get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to do a complete physical examination and likely will recommend x-rays if a foreign body ingestion is suspected. Best case scenario is that Winnie has a really upset stomach from something she ingested and not a true obstruction. However, the next best thing is to get her seen by your vet as soon as they are open in the morning. I do hope that Winnie feels better soon! Best of luck and take care

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Hazel. Yes, her stomach could be rumbling from the lack of food. The biggest concern is why she is not eating though. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian if she is still not eating. You need to determine why and so you help her to start eating again. I hope this information helps!

Dogs do not typically vomit from hunger but may vomit for other reasons such as dietary indiscretion, gastric reflux, parasitic infection, gastrointestinal obstruction, and pancreatitis just to name a few. I would withhold food from Louie for the next 6-8 hours (he can have water) to give his stomach a break. If he continues to vomit today, I would take Louie into see his veterinarian. I would just watch him really closely for bloating and at retching. If either of these are noticed, it is an emergency and you need to take him to a vet ASAP. I would make him rest for the rest of the day and not let him getting too active. If you are unsure, it is always best to have them checked out to ensure everything is okay. I hope this helps!

If the vomiting was solely due to motion sickness, I would have expected it to have stopped at this point, once she was out of the car. Vomiting can have a number of causes in dogs, both related to the GI tract (parasites, intestinal blockage, foreign objects in the stomach, bacterial or viral infections) as well as non GI-related (kidney or liver issues, pancreatitis, etc). The fact that she is now dry-heaving is especially concerning, as non-productive vomiting (i.e. retching repeatedly without bringing anything up) is a common sign of the very serious GI issue known as "bloat" or "GDV". In this condition, the stomach fills with air and/or food, and then flips around, essentially blocking the entry/exit points. I would take Hannah in for veterinary care immediately, first to rule out GDV and then to get definitive diagnosis and treatment for the vomiting.

This is usually a sign of nausea, which should be ideally checked as it could be compatible with a chronic type of inflammation. Considering her age, a physical examination and possibly more investigations (like an abdominal ultrasound of her abdomen) would be ideal.

If Ruckis is still having this issue then I recommend a visit with your veterinarian to make sure he doesn't have an intestinal upset.
