Dog dry eye meds started, still lethargic and barely opening eyes?

She may be lethargic due to pain. I suggest you call your vet to see if you can get a different pain medication. I have eye problems and I can tell you it is miserable and very painful and you don't feel like doing much. I'm guessing that may be going on with her. I'm glad the eye is looking better though!

Hi there! I am assuming you are using Optimmune for dry eye? If so, there is often an eye infection as well that is brewing, due to having low tears. Because of this, I strongly recommend that you see a vet sooner, rather than later, as there are likely to be additional medications that can help your dog's eyes.

Yes, if he is reluctant to or struggling to open the eye, I would be very concerned that he may have a scratch or lesion on his cornea. His eye should be examined by a veterinarian to determine if that is a possibility. If so, he would require prescription eye medication. Did your veterinarian give any treatment? That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. I'm sorry to hear that Phoebe has had so many eye issues lately! Cloudiness to the eye is most commonly caused by corneal ulcers (scratches or abrasions on the surface of the eye), insufficient tear production, cataracts (if the lens within the eye is cloudy), among other issues. Green mucus does indicate that infection may be present, but this infection could be secondary to a corneal ulcer or other issue. Squinting is a sign of eye pain in dogs, so it does sound as though Phoebe is quite painful. Her sudden lethargy and loss of appetite could be related to eye pain, or could be another problem altogether. Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva, or the pinkish tissues surrounding the eye, and is not necessarily an actual diagnosis, but rather is a sign of other conditions. At this point, since Phoebe's eye is becoming more clouded with even more discharge despite the medication, the best thing you can do is take Phoebe back to the vet for a recheck. If your vet is closed today, I would recommend going to an emergency vet for more urgent evaluation since eye problems can progress rapidly. In all likelihood, Phoebe needs to have a full eye exam, as well as some diagnostic tests including a fluorescein stain of her eye (to check for ulcers/scratches on the cornea), Schirmer tear test (to check tear production), and possibly have her eye pressures tested. Poor Yoda. That I does look cloudy from the pictures but I can only see so much. I am assuming that TobraDex is actually Tobramycin ophthalmic antibiotic. And since you did not mention any other medications, I will also assume that this is the only medication you are using. I believe that Yoda should be taken back to the veterinarian as soon as you can. The reason being is that two days with and wait meant applied as often as you are applying should be causing this all right to almost be back to normal by now. My concern is that there may be something else that needs to be added to your treatment regimen. for instance, maybe you have a possible infection in the eye that is resistant to the Tobramycin. or maybe there is a lot of inflammation and an anti-inflammatory medication needs to be added. But I would not wait any longer to go back into the veterinarian and have them do an ophthalmic examination again. You may want to check for another corneal stain, tear test, fundic exam, etc. I hope that you guys are able to get Yoda’s Eye on the road to recovery.
