My dog drools foamy white stuff on walks. Is this normal?

It's very common for dogs to have a bit of foam on their tongue or near their mouth if they have been running and playing hard - this happens because they are panting hard during exercise, which dries out their mouth and makes their saliva thicker, causing it to look foamy. As long as Mia is acting normal otherwise, this should not be any cause for concern :)

The foaming by itself is not concerning. This usually happens when they bark a lot, or run around a lot. As long as she is otherwise eating, drinking and acting normal, I would not be concerned about the foaming. I hope that helps and all is well with Bella.

Hi there and thank you for your post! It sounds like Riley may have gotten into something outside. Hypersalivation can be from many possible causes. With his age, I would suspect something irritating (chemical, toad, insect sting) or something stuck in his oral cavity. Have you looked inside his mouth to ensure there isn't a stick or something stuck? If not, I would rinse out his mouth with the hose on low pressure and see if that helps. If there is any swelling, I would give a dose of Benadryl and take him to your veterinarian right away in case this is a severe allergic reaction. The dose of Benadryl would be 100mg if Riley's weight is indeed 100lb. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions / concerns

Drooling can be a sign of issues such as nausea (from stomach upset) or problems with the mouth (broken teeth, dental disease, something stuck in the mouth/throat). If you suspect minor stomach upset, you can try offering a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice to help settle Apollo's stomach. If his drooling continues, he's pawing at his face, you can see something stuck or wrong inside the mouth, or he begins to vomit/become ill, a vet visit is best.

It is also possible that his teeth are causing him discomfort and leading to the foam that you are noticing. If he is otherwise acting normally I would recommend continuing to monitor this problem. No, this isn't normal. Foaming around the mouth can be a sign of nausea, poisoning, difficulty swallowing, poor dental hygiene, and even rabies. If Tucky is vaccinated for rabies, then it is extremely unlikely that would be a cause of the hyper salivation. Licking the lips is also a sign of nausea. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he continues to foam at the mouth in the absence of food, on the bland diet, or becomes lethargic he will need to see a vet.
