Why is my dog drooling after dental cleaning and extraction?

You should have Pete examined by your veterinarian. There may be periodontal disease, infection or foreign body causing the symptoms. Sedation may be required to examine him fully. If it is periodontal disease, a complete dental cleaning may be indicated. This will require anesthesia and Pete may need extractions.

That is completely normal. Inappetence and mild to moderate bleeding has to be expected after this extraction (which is certainly a major one). If the signs persist 36hours after surgery a check up is needed, otherwise I would not be extremely worried about it. There is most likely a wound in the mouth which is why he is drooling. I highly recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check what may be wrong so that therapy can be started right away. Best of luck!

Snickers is a cutie! I would ask if he has been checked since he had all the teeth removed? The doctor needs to make sure all the extraction sites are healed and there is no inflammation present indicating there could be a problem. If he has not been examined recently, I would recommend to have him checked. Some dogs will like excessively once the teeth are removed. Being that he is a long haired little dog, it could also be that the hair is now sticking in his mouth. Keep the hair trimmed short around his mouth. Also check his lips to make sure you don't see any infection or redness. I hope this helps!

Depending on which teeth and how many are removed it is not uncommon for some dogs to not be able to keep their tongue in after extractions. This can also be a nervous behavior or a sign of nausea. It is unlikely neurological if there are no other signs such as difficulty swallowing or blinking or any changes in facial symmetry

Drooling and grinding of teeth can be a sign of pain and discomfort or nausea. Nausea and pain can be a common side effect. If they persist more than 24 hours post injection then I would have her rechecked. Also if it affects her enough to not eat, she needs to be seen to make sure her sugar does not get to low and cause other problems

Hello. This is all VERY normal after a significant extraction of infected teeth. A little blood mixed in with saliva is causing the pink slime, & Maxi will hopefully learn to reposition her tongue, but many dogs without any more teeth will keep some of their tongue exposed.
