My dog has a drool rash on her lips. What can I do to make it go away?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cane Corso | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 100 lbs

My dog is a Italian mastiff, she has a rash on her lips and I believe it's from drooling because she does drool quite a lot. She isn't drooling more than usual so I'm not sure why the rash is just now occurring. It doesn't seem to bother her at all, but it looks irritated and sore to me. Is there anything I can do myself to help her or make it go away?

I would recommend a pet formulated mouth rinse (from your local pet store) to cleanse the area. Then you can place a thin layer of Neosporin on the area to help it heal. Drooling over time can cause moist pyoderma (skin infections). I would also look into why Scarlett is having excessive drooling. Dental disease is usually the cause.
