My Labrador is constantly dripping small amounts of urine. Why?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 55 lbs

My 2 year old, female Labrador is leaking urine. It's only a small amount but seems to be a fairly constant and very slowly drip. She doesn't seem to be in pain and is calm. She ate her food this morning and has played fetch for a short time as well. Last night we took her to a friends house and she ran off briefly. We found her by the river and she had paddled ( she wasn't completely wet so hadn't swam). She slept in the laundry not in the house as usual. Wondering if stress can do this?

Poor Shiloh! This urine leaking can be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones, so I would have her seen by a vet for it. Stress shouldn't be a cause of these symptoms. Have her seen by a vet tomorrow, and the vet can perform a physical exam, blood test, and urinalysis on her. Should she have a UTI or bladder stones, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. Increased urinaiton is a sign of a urinary tract infection. Have him seen by your vet soon to have his urine tested and then he can get on medication to help resolve this. He is an older dog as well so that vet will ensure there aren't any other complications here as well such as urinary stones. I hope that Domino's urinary issues resolve soon! Why is my elderly dog still leaking urine after multiple antibiotics?

It sounds like Blacky had a urinary tract infection, which sometimes can become recurrent or resistant and difficult to treat. His urine may need to be cultured again to see if the infection has resolved. Sometimes bladder stones or polyps, or diseases like Cushing's or kidney disease could also cause urine leakage. Finally, he may have urinary incontinence due to a neurologic issue and require medication to help stop the leakage. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian to see if there are any additional tests they would recommend.

This can be ruled out by submitting a urine sample to be checked for bacteria. UTIs in addition to making pets pee in abnormal locations, may also cause them to be lethargic, anxious, panting, and have a decreased appetite. Some common possible problems that can cause dogs to urinate in inappropriate places would include a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, Cushing's disease, or even a bladder tumor.
