My Goldendoodle drank pond water and threw up. Does she need a vet?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Nola. I would continue to offer her small frequent amounts of water and food. Be sure to give the medication as directed. The diarrhea is likely related to whatever caused the vomiting. If she is not starting to improve though, she will need to be seen for a recheck. Being a puppy, I worry about her becoming dehydrated, especially if she continues to vomit. Your veterinarian can prescribe a nausea medication that may help her eat better and will stop the drooling. I hope this information helps.

Most likely Stella will be ok. There are some bacteria associated with water such as Leptospirosis. If she has any vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, weakness or pain Stella should get examined by her veterinarian.

As long as you have started her vaccinations then I wouldn’t think that you have done anything wrong. She may have consumed a little too much salt water, or it could be completely unrelated. I would consider feeding her a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice his morning. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Pug is eating, acting normally, urinating, and defecating normally, there is little cause for concern. Just a like humans, dogs sometimes vomit a couple times (for many reasons) and then are completely fine. If the vomiting recurrs or you see other concerning signs like loss of appetite, extreme lethargy, or anything else That concerns you, head in to the vet to figure out what’s going on. If Jordy continues to vomit, starts dry heaving, or is extremely lethargic, I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic tonight or first thing in the morning. If he is normal the rest of the night, give him a half his normal breakfast and monitor for more vomiting. If he does continue to vomit, he'll need to go to vet. Common causes of vomiting in puppies include foreign bodies, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, some metabolic disorders, and mild gastroenteritis if unknown origin. If he does end up needing to go to the vet, they will likely take some x-rays and maybe do a baseline blood work, and then treat him symptomatically if they are do not find a specific. It could be some water went up Charlie's nose if he had a full bowl, or drinking too quickly after playing could have lead to nausea and a bit of vomiting. If he's otherwise acting normally, I'd keep an eye on him for now. Best of luck.

This may cause some GI upset which may result in vomiting and/or diarrhea. If it is limited to a couple of bouts and she's back to normal in 12 hours or so, you don't need to worry. Just keep an eye on her for the next 12-24 hours, and if she develops vomiting or diarrhea that is severe or continuous, or if she becomes increasingly lethargic, seek emergency care.
