Why is my dog digging up the yard and destroying the carpet?

Many times, digging can be a sign of boredom and understimulation. This can also be a behavioral problem. The things you can do to help prevent digging are as follows: 1. Increase exercise and get Duke to play more. Dog parks, increased walks, playing fetch, etc. can all be beneficial 2. Don't allow toys outside. Many dogs dig and bury toys outside so not allowing toys outside can prevent this. 3. Provide an area that you permit digging. Train Duke so that he knows it is okay to dig in a certain area of the yard. 4. Get Duke enrolled in dog sports or training classes I hope these help! There could be a couple of reasons why Pilot is showing this behavior. If he is drinking from a stainless steel bowl, he could be seeing a reflected light in it, leading him to try to catch it by digging in it. I would use a non-reflective bowl. It could be that Pilot likes moving water, and digging the bowl creates movement in his water bowl. You can use a doggy water fountain instead of a bowl. It provides continuing streams of water, and dogs love drinking from them. I know this from personal experience! You can get a doggy water fountain online or from a pet store. It could also be that Pilot is bored. Set up a regular routine with play and training to keep him busy and occupied. Finally, you can keep the water at a lower level in the bowl, which decreases his ability to dig at the water.

It sounds like Booker is experiencing some separation anxiety when you leave the house. I recommend crating him when you are gone. The crate will provide him a small space where he can feel safe in it when you are gone. You will have to slowly train him to get used to a crate. Start putting him in it when you are home and sitting nearby so he doesn't think you are abandoning him, and slowly increase the time he is in it. He can have toys in the crate, and puzzle toys with treats in it that he has to figure out how to get the treats out. You can put a tablespoon of peanut butter in a Kong toy and freeze it in the freezer overnight, then give it to him in the crate. That will keep him occupied for a while. Finally, you can get a pheromone diffuser called DAP that helps dogs with anxiety and pair that will a DAP pheromone collar that releases pheromones when in contact with his skin. If these methods do not help him, then I recommend having him seen by a vet to discuss the use of anti-anxiety medications. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Pilot sounds like your average, rambunctious and mischievous puppy dog. All of what you are describing are perfectly normal puppy behaviors. With proper training, enrichment, and patience on your part, Pilot should become a well-adjusted adult dog in time. Beginning obedience class at this early of an age might be a little frustrating, but I still think it is a great idea as long as the trainer is patient as well. The dog trainer should be able to provide you with many training techniques and ideas on how to make your dog most suitable for your own situation. Good luck!!

It sounds like Jeter has a lot of energy! He probably needs more outlets for the energy to go. Try taking him for walks or runs, working on his mental stimulation with obedience training, setting up agility courses for him to perform, use treat toys to activate his mind, etc.

This sounds like territorial behavior. Dogs are naturally driven to mark their territory. You’re probably aware that dogs urinate on objects to claim them as their own, but that isn’t the only way to mark territory. Dogs have glands in their paws that leave a distinctive scent on bedding or other objects whenever they scratch. Both male and female dogs can do this. Dogs are more likely to return to a bedding spot if they already feel it’s theirs. This may be why scratching behaviors sometimes begin or intensify when a new pet or person has moved into the house, or there has been another type of major change in the household. Since this is a new dog to your house she is likely marking her territory. I see that listed her as not spayed. If she is pregnant and getting ready to have her puppies she may do this behavior as well. I sure hope she is not pregnant at 13 years of age! Hope this helps. Best wishes.

If your puppy is only (or mostly only) urinating on these blankets and beds it is probably behavioral. But, because you don’t want him to start spreading this habit to other things in the house, I would recommend not giving him toys/blankets/beds like this so it discourages the habit.
