Dogs should be fed an age appropriate diet, either a puppy food, maintenance diet, or senior blend. The best dog food companies are Hill's Science Diet, Royal Canin, & Purina. You can not go wrong choosing one of these. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Congratulations to your new family member! I hope you have many years together. The best food to feed is a good quality brand name complete senior dog food for small dogs.I like to feed Purina Pro Plan or Hill's, but there are other good brands out there as well.

Hi there! For senior dogs, I really like Purina Pro Plan's Bright Minds senior diets - these come in both canned and dry versions, so you could feed the wet formula only if that's what you prefer. :)

Purina is a mid range food, i usually recommend Orijen, Acana or Evolve (there are many other high quality foods on the market). it's best to feed both wet and dry if you can (in different bowls of course).
