My dog died suddenly with vomiting and drooling. Was it poison?

I am so sorry to hear about Sky. I can only imagine what you are dealing with at this moment. Based on what you described, I would be suspicious of rat bait poisoning. Rat bait works quickly (effects can start within a few hours) and bleeding is the main consequence. The only other thing that would possibly look like this would be a ruptured abdominal tumor (cancer). This is generally a condition that effects older dogs. Its not uncommon that the pet will act completely normal until the tumor actually ruptures. Mortality is very high. Once again, I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, it's really not possible to know what's causing this without more information, since acting lethargic and not eating are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of illness. If any of the dogs have had lab work, x-rays, or other testing done, it would be helpful to know what the results were in order to give some possibilities. For a definitive diagnosis, the best option would be to have an autopsy (called a necropsy in animals) performed on one of the dogs who passed away.

That sounds serious! Even though yournone dog seems okay now I would recommend taking her to a vet right away - she may have had a seizure or have heart disease or low blood sugar. While there are toxins that can cause vomiting and toxins that can cause neurologic symptoms like loss of consciousness it is not very likely that someone is deliberately poisoning your dogs without your knowledge. Usually the three main causes of sudden death in dogs of her age are massive heart attacks, brain or cardiac aneurysms, or toxicity of some kind. And yes, all three of these diseases can cause an animal to exhibit vomiting right before they pass away. Sadly, the only true way to find out what an animal has died from it is by having a post death autopsy performed by a specialized pathologist. if this is something you’re interested in doing, please contact your veterinarian as to whether or not they can refer you to someone that could help determine the cause of death. These are concerning signs of a possible intoxication. Immediate check up is required to treat the signs and reduce as much as possible absorption. Metaldehyde (used in snail poison) and intoxication from a long list of other substances can cause these signs. I am afraid it is impossible to be more specific than that. In order to tell for sure, I would have to get more information about his case, examine the body and send samples for testing. However, considering how soon he died, this indicates that he either had severe organ damage, or a severely altered blood chemistry. This can happen in cases of certain infections and in cases of poisoning. There are also many other preexisting conditions like cancer, heart/vascular disease and parasitism that could also cause their to be a sudden decline in health.
