My dog had diarrhea, now constipated & not drinking. When to see vet?

It sounds as Faith is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Yes, any pet that has persistent signs especially vomiting and diarrhea should be evaluated immediately. Once dehydration and electrolyte imbalance develop, they will just continue to get weaker and weaker unless treated. Reasons for vomiting/diarrhea are many and range from intestinal problems or problems with other organs in the body causing the signs. Intestinal worms, dietary indiscretion (eating things she is not supposed to eat), dietary intolerance/sensitivity, a foreign body (especially in younger dogs), infection, inflammation, toxins, pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, etc. Your vet can do a physical exam and some tests which could include a fecal exam, blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. to try to determine what is causing the problem. Once a diagnosis is made they will advise a treatment plan to address the issue. Your vet can also address the itching of her muzzle and whining which may or may not be related. I hope this is just temporary and it resolves quickly for you and Moka.

Hi there. Dogs can certainly get a minor upset stomach due to an infection or something they ate, but this should normally resolve within 24 hours. Since Brutus has been sick for three days now, I would definitely recommend having him seen, as this may be a more serious problem. He may have a GI problem such as pancreatitis or a foreign body in his intestines, a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, or may have ingested something toxic. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

Your information doesn't say how old she is. If a young puppy then I would go in immediately. If an adult, then fasting food for 12 hours, then offering a bland diet of Boiled chicken and rice. If she won't eat, if she begins vomiting, or if there is blood in her bowel movement then she should be seen. Or at any time if she seems to be getting worse. I hope she improves soon. These symptoms are suggestive of an internal illness (i.e. bacterial infection, kidney disease, liver disease, etc) for sure, and therfore its best to get Jace seen by your vet as soon as they open. If you can get her seen within the next 12-24 hrs, then that should be suitable enough. Continue to monitor her gums (should be nice and pink, if pale then it is an emergency), breathing (shortless of breath is an emergency) and energy level (severe lethargy and unresponsiveness is an emergency) for now. Since he is going every 3-4 hours it might be a good idea to take him to the vet to prescribe medications to help resolve the diarrhea, especially since he is going in the house at night. If you wanted to try some treatment at home, you could withhold food for 12 hours and then try a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice. If the diarrhea has improved then continue the bland diet for a few days and slowly transition back to his normal food. You could also add a dog probiotic to his diet. Yes, given Snivker's age and the fact she is losing fluid both through sickness and diarrhoea , she is at risk of becoming dehydrated and going into hypovolaemic shock. I would recommend that she is seen promptly by a veterinarian.
