My dog has diarrhea after eating a bone. Can I use human probiotics?

Yes, I suggest you get him a probiotic to add to the food. Use the probiotic with the chicken and rice (no puppy food) for about 4 days and then go back to trying to transition him back to the puppy food. I like this probiotic. I think it is the best. Feed one packet on the food daily. Hello. I would recommend starting Finn on a good probiotic, as this is very important for returning the gut bacteria back to normal. FortiFlora is an excellent one & is available at PetCo. I would also start him on some Metamucil, 1/2 tablespoon twice a day. If diarrhea continues, please see your veterinarian as Finn may need either a stronger anti-diarrheal or he may need antibiotics at this point. Continue the chicken & rice ( should be 75% rice & 25% chicken ) for another couple of days. The diluted Pedialyte is an excellent idea. Hello. So sorry Niko Denali is having this issue. I would not call Diagel a probiotic but it is a natural product to treat diarrhea. You can certainly use probiotics along with what he is taking if you want to do that but you need to use a product made for dogs. The best probiotic in my opinion is Fortiflora. I would use that one if you can get it. Sometimes you can find it at Petsmart or Petco and even sometimes Walmart has it. If not you can buy it online at Amazon. You do not need a prescription for it. DO NOT use yogurt or products made for people. Dog "good bacteria" and human are not the same. If you can't get Fortiflora quickly enough than you can use any product made for dogs. As for taking the two antibiotics at once, yes, those are commonly given together and work well together. When my patients have diarrhea after antibiotics I will usually prescribe a canine specific probiotic to help get the good bacteria loaded back up in the GI tract. My favorite is Proviable and it also comes with a paste to help firm up the stools. My second favorite is Fortiflora. I would encourage you to call your veterinarian and discuss the possibility of using one of these products. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

I would recommend transitioning her to a different food and consider adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora. I would try 2-3 different foods and see if that makes a difference. Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I don't think you need to be super concerned with Diesel. I recommend starting him on a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger mixed with rice. Feed him 3 1/2 cups per day until 2 normal stools. You can also start a probiotic. I like Purina Fortiflora. If the diarrhea persists, worsens, you see blood or he starts vomiting get him looked at by your Vet. However, with more severe or persistent diarrhea, additional therapy is warranted. I recommend continuing the Fortiflora, but you should have Charlie rechecked by the vet. If the diarrhea isn't improving, depending on what was done previously, your vet may recommend additional testing (such as x-rays), and he will likely be prescribed some additional GI supportive medications to control the diarrhea. A prescription bland food may also be recommended to help firm up his stools. Hope this helps!
