Why does my dog still have diarrhea after vet and medication?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 60 lbs

My dog is peeing out his butt. We took him to the vet last Tuesday she put him on a nausea med, dewormer, and an antibiotic we did xrays. He quit puking but still has diarrhea can you help

Diarrhea could be caused by parasites, change in diet, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please make an appointment to have Raider seen by a veterinarian again as soon as possible, as diarrhea like that can lead to dehydration, and can be very dangerous if left untreated. I recommend taking in a fecal sample from Raider to your vet as well, as that may aid them in making a diagnosis. Your vet may recommend bloodwork and/or an ultrasound to help determine why the diarrhea isn't stopping. Good luck, and I hope he feels better soon!

It sounds as Stella is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that your pup is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have your pup reevaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your pup!

After 3 days of liquid diarrhea and now vomiting as well, it’s time to take Cupid to the vet. She may just have an upset stomach from eating bark or other debris in your backyard, some parasites, a gastrointestinal virus, or other medical issue. Diarrhea can result in dehydration, even though she is still eating and drinking normally. I hope she feels better soon!

Bloody diarrhea can be caused by intestinal parasites, a parvo virus infection, severe intestinal infection, an injury in the colon or rectum, or have an idiopathic reason (ie , we can't find a cause). You will need to take your dog back to the vet for a recheck as he likely will need antibiotic treatment to prevent him from getting sepsis. My dog has explosive diarrhea, not eating, and meds aren't working?

There are several things I try for diarrhea that is not responding to typical treatments - sometimes I give the medications for a longer duration, sometimes I'll try a different antibiotic, and sometimes I'll try a different diet (which it sounds like your vet is attempting with the EN). Your vet might also want to retest a stool sample - sometimes with diarrhea there just isn't enough actual feces to get a positive results. Chronic diarrhea can also be caused by inflammatory bowel disease which is a more severe form of IBS and ultrasound and special blood testing can help diagnose this. Corticosteroid medications and B12 injections are often the recommended treatments for IBD.

I recommend to call your veterinarian. When pets don't respond to treatment as expected, it can mean that the real cause of illness has not been identified. The veterinarian may try a different medication or recommend further diagnostics such as a fecal culture, parasite testing or ultrasound. Radar needs to be examined by the veterinarian again. When pets don't respond to treatment as expected, it can mean that the real cause of illness has not been identified. Likely Radar needs other diagnostics which could include an ultrasound, a fecal culture, giardia testing, a different antibiotic or a diet trial with a hydrolyzed protein diet trial. I hope they figure out the problem quickly.

Dogs will frequently develop diarrhea from a diet change which is why it is recommended to slowly transition your pet from one food to another. Since worms have been ruled out, it is likely that this is your pup's issue, although there may be many reasons for diarrhea including infection, allergies and other disorders. If the diarrhea does not resolve in another day or two, you should take her back to your veterinarian to determine the underlying cause of the diarrhea.

My dog has Giardia. Why is his diarrhea not going away with meds?

Ths can be a tricky disease to get rid of. The diarrhea caused by Giardia can lead to colitis, an inflammation in the bowel wall, which can make the diarrhea worse and/or persist despite the treatment. You will need to make sure you are cleaning up all of Kenai’s feces daily so that he does not become reinfected. It may also be helpful to ask your veterinarian about adding a probiotic to Kenai’s treatment plan. This can help the diarrhea clear up more quickly. And finally, it may be worth retesting Kenai’s feces to make sure nothing else is going on. He may need an additional antibiotic to help clear up the diarrhea. I hope this helps.
