My dog had foreign body surgery. Is diarrhea normal 2 weeks later?

This could be completely normal after the surgery and could be due to an inflammation of the last part of the colon. As a first approach I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Anesthesia can cause these symptoms along with the stress of the stay but that antibiotic can be a factor also. If he is eating and drinking fine with only a small amount of blood at the end of the BM then you can monitor for anything further. If it is diarrhea with blood through out then I would get him seen. You can always try boiled chicken and rice as this is bland and easy to digest. You may need to add canine probiotics while in antibiotics. You may want to talk to your vet about a different one that is easier on the stomach

There should never be blood in stools, so it is certainly abnormal. Some medications could cause bleeding in the GI tract, so I would stop any medications and call the vet for advice. He should be examined by a vet or emergency vet if additional symptoms develop, such as lethargy, poor appetite, or vomiting.

It really depends on the type of surgery done, but this is not usually normal and indicates a problem within the intestines. Diarrhea is sometimes seen after surgery. This can be due to the drugs used for the surgery, stress of surgery, or possibly an infection. I recommend taking Boss in for a check-up to the vet that did the surgery. If the bleeding becomes more pronounced or Scooby does not appear to be doing well, I would get him to your vet for a recheck as soon as possible. You should also periodically check his gum color. It may just be blood from the inflammation in the intestines caused by the folding over. However, it could be a very serious indicator of illness, and I would recommend that Holly go to the vet today for a quick recheck. If she were coming into my hospital, I would start with a CBC to check white and red cell levels. I would also review her current medications to make sure they were addressing all of her current issues. She may even need to be hospitalized for continued monitoring. It sounds like she had major surgery! Many dogs will remain in the hospital for 1-3 days after splenectomy to monitor for signs of complications.
