My dog has a deep, V-shaped cut on her head. How should I treat it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shar Pei | Female | unspayed | 2 years old

Hello, my dog (a female sharpei who weighs around 17kg) has cut herself on the top of her head. How can I treat her? The cut does not have clear edges -it looks a bit "v" shaped.

That looks like a fairly deep laceration and I think it would probably need to be closed with sutures or staples. I would recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian. Depending on how it occurred antibiotics might also be prescribed to prevent infection.
