My dog has a deep cut. Does it need stitches? How soon should I go?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Whippet | Female | spayed

My dog ran into some barb wire fence and got three lacerations. She isn't bleeding, how long do I have to get her to the vet for stitches? Do you think she needs stitches? This is the worst cut.

Ouch, poor Kepler! Thank you for providing picture of her laceration. Based on the pictures, I would say that it is long enough to require stitches, and the sooner you can get them, the better for her. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
