My dog has accidents, dark stinky urine. Are bladder stones back?

Poor Abby! Bloody urine is a very common sign of bladder stones, so I would definitely be concerned that this may be the problem again. I would recommend taking her to the vet tomorrow morning for an exam and x-rays - this should help to determine whether or not she has stones again, so that she can get started on appropriate treatment.

Unfortunately the concerns is that there may be a urinary tract infection which needs to be treated with antibiotics. I recommend to get her into see the veterinarian and have her urine checked for infection or crystals as these can commonly show up like this. Sometimes very concentrated urine can smell stronger and in that instance, you want to increase the drinking. This can be achieved by adding water to the food but it sounds like she is already drinking a lot. Play it safe and have her urine checked to be sure. These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation), infection and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. Your vet is correct there was microscopic blood in her urine which is abnormal in a free catch sample. There are many reasons for blood in the urine including but not limited to bladder stones (also subclinical infection, a mass, etc.). It will always be up to you though what you think is best for your pet. Your vet is just performing good medicine and making recommendations based on results to make sure your pet is healthy and disease free. Unfortunately there is no way to know why the blood is there without more tests but if you would like to monitor her and her urine i am sure your vet will be happy to recommend a recheck schedule. I am sorry to hear that your dog is experiencing this. Urinary tract infections would be the most common cause of dark red urine, but urinary bladder stones are also common and are more likely to lead to clots as well. Even less common but still a possibility would be urinary tract cancer. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. I am so sorry that Puffy is having this issue. I would recommend having an x-ray performed to rule out or in stones. If she has bladder stones then ideally she would have surgery. If she is about 10 years old I wouldn't be concerned about the surgery as long as her physical examination is good and her blood work is good. If she does not have bladder stones I would recommend getting a urine culture performed and potentially an ultrasound of her bladder. The urine culture will definitively rule out a urinary tract infection while the ultrasound will make sure there is no mass in her bladder. It certainly isn't normal for a dog's urine to have a black color to it, and yes it can indicate that Black has a UTI or bladder stones. I see that he isn't neutered. In dogs who aren't neutered, prostate problems could also be a cause of the color of his urine. These problems include benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and prostate cancer.
