My dog has cystitis and is vomiting. Could it be her medication?

Antibiotics and urinary tract infections themselves can both cause nausea/vomiting. However, as you finished the antibiotics 5 days ago, it is less likely that the vomiting is due to the UTI antibiotics. If she has recently gotten table food or had access to food from the garbage, she may have a condition called pancreatitis caused by a sudden high fat meal that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain. A trip to your veterinarian for screening bloodwork to rule out a liver/kidney/pancreas issue as the cause of the vomiting, subcutaneous fluid therapy, anti-nausea medication (cerenia), and a prescription intestinal diet is advised. If you are not able to get an appointment immediately, I recommend feeding only a bland diet of boiled rice and chicken (with no regular kibble) for the next 3-5 days. Sometimes this alone helps resolve the symptoms of mild gastroenteritis. Good luck!

Medication choice depends on what type of infection they found and if culture/sensitively was performed. Be sure to feed her before medication. In some cases smaller can be given more frequently, or different antibiotic or possibly a long lasting injection may be given if she can not tolerate oral medications Good luck I hope she’s better soon.

I'm sorry to hear that your little girl is not feeling well. For a UTI, that is an appropriate dose of Baytril. Unfortunately, Baytril, along with most other antibiotics, can cause vomiting. You can either try to give the pill with food or cut it in half and give half of the tablet every 12 hours. This way she still gets the full pill every day, but decreasing the amount given at one time may decrease the upset stomach she is experiencing. If she continues to vomit, I would recommend contacting your veterinarian as she may need to get a different antibiotic if she can't tolerate the Baytril.

First make sure she is eating her food without vomiting, give her only half of the food amount. if after an hour she seems to be ok and she is not vomiting, give her the second half of her food and the antibiotics. if she continues vomiting you will have to take her to your vet.

If Bella just started vomiting since starting the Amoxicillin, I would stop giving her the medication and schedule a recheck with your vet. She likely is just sensitive to this medication and will do fine on another one. Try offering her something easily digestible to eat like plain boiled chicken and rice. I'm very sorry you are dealing with this. At this point, you should discuss quality of life issues with your veterinarian. Friday may be able to get an antibiotic injection that, hopefully, would not cause stomach upset. If your veterinarian is unavailable due to the holiday, consider a visit to the local veterinary ER. After an exam, the vet on staff could recommend a different antibiotic or an injection.

This behavior is very common with UTI, but could also be caused by urinary bladder stones, kidney disease, and a few other things. I would recommend that you have Ruby examined by a vet. A urinalysis and x-rays of the bladder to check for stones are the first step.
