My dog cut his quick, keeps licking. How long to keep paw wrapped?

It should heal enough within 24-48 hours for it not to bleed again when exposed to moisture. You can put on a doggie bootie or even a toddler sock in the meantime for walks outside (remove it once Lola comes inside as moisture retained in the bootie or sock is not ideal either). If you have a bandage on still, be sure to check her toes every few hours to make sure that they are still warm/that the bandage is not too tight (sometimes they can tighten on their own and even cause the paw to swell). It’s likely not necessary but you can also try applying liquid bandage that can be found in most drug stores/pharmacies. (vet’s often use a different version as tissue/surgery glue.) Good luck!

If it bleeds, thickly apply something powdered, like corn starch or flour, to clot the blood. Then place a bandage over the nail for no longer than 24 hours. You MUST take the bandage off in 24 hours and do not place it tightly. If Rex is licking the area, he could cause an infection, so monitor for any swelling, discharge, or redness until the new nail grows. You can also soak the paw in an Epsom salt bath to soothe the area (make sure it is dry before applying the bandage). I cannot stress enough that he cannot wear the bandage longer than 24 hours. You can use both. A thin layer of iodine ointment will serve to help prevent infection. The Woun’ dres can be applied over it. If Caesar is likely to lick it, I recommend an e-collar. He may chew and eat a bandage if he isn’t wearing an e-collar. Bandages are also tricky because they can trap moisture and can tighten, cutting off circulation to the paw. I would continue applying both three times a day until the nail bed appears completely dry and scabbed over. You can place a toddler sock or a bootie over the paw when you take Caesar outside to pee and poop but I would avoid long walks for the next week. Good luck!

An e-collar (cone) will go a long way in aiding in healing. Keep it on until the wound is completely healed. Limit activity to just leash walks for elimination. Avoid excessive running jumping or rough play. You can find it in the local Petco.

Not dangerous, but it does hurt a lot. I would recommend taking Colossus to the vet tomorrow. Some types of nail damage may need oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. You will need to prevent him from licking since it will delay healing and can lead to infection. You can cover the foot with a sock or have him wear an e-collar.

Poor Luca! I actually recommend to use an Elizabethan collar instead of a sock. The sock will hold in moisture and it will make the area more humid which will encourage more bacterial or yeast growth then allowing it to air out. Keeping these lesions open to the air is much better. Have Luca wear the collar anytime he is not being directly supervised. Wash the paw daily with an antibacterial soap and rinse. You can continue the Epson salt soak every other day (rinse well afterwards). After it is dry, you can apply the spray. Make sure to keep his feet clean and dry. Until he is checked out by the vet on Monday, keep the trauma to the paw minimal so no running, jumping and keep his walks minimum and avoid abrasive surfaces such as overly dry grass and rocks. Yes, it will probably heal on it's own but you must stop him from licking at it. I suggest you use an E-collar and apply this wound spray to the affected nail area until it heals. The top portion of the nail may fall off as it looks like it is separated from the nail bed. Remember, the cone collar must be long enough to go past the end of his nose or he will still be able to lick so be sure to buy the correct size.
