Is an exposed nail quick dangerous? Nail broke off yesterday and the quick is now exposed. Small amount of bleeding initially but now dog is just licking it moderately

Prevent Zeena from licking, since that will spread infection and delay healing. She will need to wear an e-collar until it is healed. I would also recommend having her checked by the vet. Occasionally, these broken nails can lead to infection of the bone that lies within the nail, which can be very difficult to treat and very painful. She may need antibiotics and pain medications.
