Dog had stomach infection, now constipated and not eating again.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry that Coby isn't feeling well. I recommend following the diet plan that his veterinarian outlined for him. Often, bland foods that are easy to digest are recommended, canned food such as Hills I/D or Proplan EN are often recommended. If he has any more vomitting (especially after medications), straining or is painful/uncomfortable I do recommend having him evaluated or hospitalized overnight. It can take anywhere from 6-20 hours or so for food to move through the digestive tract, a lot depends on what food was ingested. If he has any further signs, additional diagnostics such as an ultrasound or contrast study may be recommended to further rule out GI obstruction or other disease. I hope Coby is back to normal quickly!

Just wondering if any blood work was done and if not I would advise getting some done to evaluate his overall health and internal organ function. Possibilities include intestinal parasites (roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, giardia, coccidia, etc), dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs are not supposed to eat), dietary/nutritional problem, infection/inflammation, foreign body ingestion, toxin exposure, other gastrointestinal diseases, disease in organs outside of the gastrointestinal tract (pancreatitis, kidney/liver disease, etc), among many other causes. The fact that he won't eat is significant since he will get weak and possibly dehydrated also if he is not drinking fluids. Your vet can reevaluate him and see if anything has changed on physical exam and then propose other tests if needed. Good luck with Hercules. I hope he feels better soon.

It depends on how Bongo is acting and what type of intestinal infection he had previously. If he is acting ok and doing well otherwise then I would watch him and see if he does it again. If he is lethargic, not eating or not doing well then I would recommend calling your veterinarian and making an appointment with them. Many things could be going on including intestinal worms, infection, a foreign body, pancreatitis, etc. Your vet can evaluate Kobe and then recommend some tests such as a fecal exam, blood work, and possibly x-rays to determine what is wrong. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Duncan isn’t feeling well. It doesn’t sound like he’s constipated, it sounds like more of the diarrhea. There just isn’t a lot left because he emptied his bowels. Since this has been going on for a few days and the diet change didn’t help I recommend taking Duncan to a vet for an exam and stool sample check. He could have intestinal parasites, a virus, a bacterial problem, or many other problems. Once the vet does an exam they can discuss testing (microscopic stool exam, blood work, radiographs). It appears that poor Oreo is having some sort of intestinal problem. This is often due to an infection or parasites, but can indicate other disorders of the digestive system. Loose stools are not too concerning, but a dog that stops eating is. Dogs usually have to feel rather bad to stop eating. Considering this, it's best to have Oreo seen by a vet in the next 24 hours. It's difficult to know how concerning this is without seeing him, but if he's otherwise acting normal, then I would not be too worried. It's best to just get him checked. The vet will be able to help narrow-down the cause of this and give medication to make him feel better.
