My pug collapsed, is vomiting & has diarrhea. What to do before vet?

I am very sorry to hear that Puffy is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, forgein body obstruction, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few hours I would continue to monitor Puffy at home. Rest Puffy's gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. If Puffy does not improve, has nonstop vomiting or diarrhoea, you notice fresh blood, Puffy seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian immediately. Poor Frank! This vomiting and diarrhea could be caused by a severe GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. Lethargy would be an accompaniment of being this ill, while his back legs could be sore from having to squat so frequently to have diarrhea. I would try a home remedy first, but if he still has the same symptoms in the morning, I would take him into the vet for an exam. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If his symptoms worsen in the night, I would take him into an ER vet right away.

I'm sorry Andro isn't doing well! Without seeing him in person, I am very limited in what I can do for him. I suggest giving him the medication, and if he keeps throwing up and refusing to eat, take him back into a vet immediately for further tests such as an x-rays or ultrasound.

It sounds like Ingmar could have a serious health issue related to heart disease, seizures, or toxin exposure. I strongly recommend you have him examined by a veterinarian right away as some of these issues can be life threatening. Your veterinarian can assess Ingmar for a heart murmur and take X-rays to determine if emergency heart medication is needed. If seizures are suspected, then medication may be needed to prevent them in the future. Blood work should also be done to ensure no organ issues are present. Monty sounds like he is very sick! It sounds like he has only had one round of vaccinations, so he is still susceptible to parvovirus, which can be a life threatening infection. Even if he does not have a parvo infection, vomiting and diarrhea can quickly dehydrate a young puppy. I recommend taking him to your veterinarian. Your veterinarian may want to test for parvovirus. He may need hospitalization and medications to help him feel better. Hope he feels better soon!

Sadie sounds extremely ill, and without seeing her in person, I legally cannot diagnose any condition. I can say that her symptoms are serious enough to require an immediate vet visit. The vet can diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Withhold all food and treats for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or an unflavored electrolyte replacement beverage. No more than 2-3 tablespoons every hour, less if she vomits. After she sees the vet, she may need a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the vomiting and diarrhea resolve after which you can slowly transition her to the regular diet. You can take her temperature rectally using a thermometer and sterile lube. If it is 103.5 F (39.7 C) or greater, have her seen at the nearest veterinary ER tonight. Normal body temp for dogs is 100 F to 102.5 F (37.7 C - 39.1 C).
