My dog's nose is cold and wet, but he's acting clingy. Is he sick?

I think this sounds normal. As long as Oreo is not sneezing and does not have any nasal discharge I think he is just fine. Whether or not the nose being cold, wet or dry being an indication of illness is an old wives tale. As long as he is acting normally I would not worry about it. The nose of a dog is not used as an indication of illness. A dog's nose can change from cold and wet to warm and dry just by laying in the sun or sitting near a heat source. He may still be sleepy from his nap, and given that he just started this behavior, I would monitor him for now. If he's still lethargic in the morning, I would have him seen by a vet for a health check.

The temperature of a dog's nose is not really a good indicator of health. If he is behaving well, eating , and playful then everything is probably fine. If you are worried that he could have a fever, then you could measure his body temperature with a rectal thermometer. The normal temperature of a dog is 100 - 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is concerning, however, that he is not eating or drinking, and is shaking and laying around. It is serious when a dog won't drink water, and I would have Brownie seen by a vet right away. This not eating and drinking could be caused by a systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. He could be shaking because he has a fever. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him for them. I would take him into a vet right away.
