My dog's had a cold for a month and can't breathe. What should I do?

Jesse should be examined by the veterinarian. The rapid breathing could indicate that she is in pain. Onions can affect the red blood cells and cause destruction of the cells and this can also effect the respiratory and cardiovascular system. I recommend to play it safe and have her examined by her veterinarian quickly. The doctor will need an easy blood test to see the amount t of red blood cells. Hello. In an older dog that suddenly develops any type of labored breathing, my first thought is a cardiopulmonary problem. Dogs just do not get colds.
