Why is my dog wheezing and snorting and having trouble breathing?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luca. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. There are variety of causes of these symptoms, but the most common is an upper respiratory tract infection. It is more likely if he has recently been to the groomers, had a boarding stay or visited a dog park. However, these exposures are not necessary for him to acquire an infection. Just like a cold in people, it can be picked up just about anywhere. A neighbor dog could cough or sneeze near the fence. His veterinarian will examine him and determine if this is the cause of his symptoms. If so, antibiotics may be prescribed. In the meantime, keep him quiet as exercise will exacerbate the cough. If he seems congested, you can place him in the bathroom while the shower runs. Breathing the warm humid air may ease the cough. I hope this information helps!
