My dog choked on water while panting from heat. Are his lungs okay?

Yes, I would be worried Blitz hasn't been himself. Heat stroke is a deadly disease in dogs that occurs when they become overheated, and that can lead to the rapid panting and vomiting. The scary part of heat stroke is that there is a lot of internal damage done to the organs from heat stroke, such as death of liver cells, rapid heartbeat, acute kidney failure, irregular heartbeat, and blood clotting disorders among many others. I think given that he was panting rapidly and vomiting yesterday and now is acting out of character that a vet visit would be best. Just to check him over to make sure he is ok. Please take him into an ER vet: if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Joey. This must be so worrisome to experience. My thoughts are that Joey either has some swallowing disorder or a primary issue with his esophagus, or he has some neurological dysfunction of his esophagus related to Myasthenia gravis. The other possibility is you are seeing seizure activity in Joey. The cyanosis is very concerning so I do highly recommend discussing this with your veterinarian. He can decide if any testing is required to diagnose what the underlying cause might be. I am concerned that she is having such trouble breathing. This could be another pneumonia, an upper respiratory infection, a fungal infection, a congenital heart problem and much more. If your vet has already done X-rays and they were normal, you may want to talk to them about having an ultrasound of the heart done. Also, I would have her blood work checked to see how her liver and kidney values are and see what her white blood count looks like. Finally, I would talk to your vet about whether see needs some antibiotics and medicine to help her breathing. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon.

Less commonly, young puppies like this can have breathing issues due to a congenital defect like a heart problem or cleft palate.
