Senior dog with CHF, bloody urine, vomiting. Is it heart or poison?

If Honey is vomiting, especially vomiting blood, she needs to go to the veterinarian. This could indicate a toxicity such as rat poison, a hereditary coagulation disorder given her age and she's bleeding inside, or even if she got into something like an anti-inflammatory and bleeding stomach ulcer. It could also indicate G.I. parasites causing digested blood in her GI tract. However anytime we see blood in the vomit and dark tarry stool's we become very concerned about life-threatening anemia. Do not give Honey any human medication including anything like Pepcid, Pepto-Bismol, or Zantac until she is examined by a veterinarian.

Coughing in dogs can be caused by pneumonia. upper respiratory infections, heartworm disease, or heart conditions. Bloody diarrhea can be caused by inflammatory bowel disease, viral diseases such as parvovirus, toxin ingestion, or bacterial infections. Sometimes, severe parasitic infections can cause these signs. A vet can perform a physical exam, and will likely need some further diagnostics such as bloodwork and x-rays to determine next steps and treatment. I hope all is well with Iris!

Poor Zoe! I would be very concerned that she has a serious medical problem causing her symptoms such as heart disease, which is common in senior dogs. Heart disease leads to exercise intolerance, and it would cause her to become weak during normal activity and fall over. These symptoms are certainly not normal, and she needs a visit to the vet as soon as possible for a physical exam, routine blood tests, urinalysis, and chest x-rays. Once the cause of her symptoms are found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. Heart disease cannot be cured, but it can be medically managed. You didn't mention if she is on heart medicaiton currently or not; however, I would either take her to your ER vet or to your regular vet as a walk in emergency appt. Spunky sounds unstable and should be looked over by a vet right away. They may be able to help stabilize her condition. Best of luck to you both. Take care.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I noticed in one of those pictures that his stool is really diarrhea and is black (which usually means a sign of bleeding). Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. In addition, black stools can be indicative of bleeding into the small intestine or stomach which can happen secondary to an ulcer for instance. Bloody urine can be the result of an infection, stones, tumors, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry about Lacey's heart disease and your concerns! I don't think Lacey is currently dying! Bloody diarrhea is a sign of colitis or inflammation of the colon. I would call your Vet Monday and see if they will prescribe a probiotic and metronidazole. You can also ask if blood stool is a side effect of her medications. Start feeding her a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs until 2 day of normal stool. I doubt the weed killer is the culprit - while you can see vomiting and diarrhea with most herbicides the dog usually needs to ingest a fairly large amount to be affected. Congestive heart failure could cause a cough, and I think that a recheck with your vet would be a good idea since things have now changed. Heart failure would not typically cause diarrhea.
