Why is my 11-month doodle suddenly chewing carpets and baseboards?

I am so sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with Cedric. I am sure it is related to the restricted exercise, As well as his age. Puppies absolutely do like to get into things they shouldn't, as frustrating as this can be. Cedric is also developing into a sexually mature dog, so a lot of changes are currently underway for him. Which can lead to "acting out" such as he is. To keep Cedric safe from the possible harmful effects of eating trash, furniture or cardboard, and to keep the mess at a minimum I would suggest a tall trash can with securely closing lid, and placing Cedric into a room without anything to chew while you are away. I would suggest using Baby gates rather then crate training. One reason why puppies are known for their destructive tendencies is they are in need of more stimulation, or experience anxiety when separated from you. There currently are several toys on the market which will interact with Cedric and release treats, that can be used while you are out. Cedeic could also possibly benefit from more exercise once he is able,, as well as puppy socialisation classes. Though less likely, there is also a possibility that Cedric, could have something else wrong that causes him to seek out strange foods. For instance, metabolic disorders, parasites, and vitamin deficiencies can all be underlying causes. In order to rule out these causes a trip to the veterinarian would be needed. The vet would check on the parameters of Cedric's blood, and check a fecal sample for parasites. Chewing is normal for puppies and unfortunately, most of them will not out grow it until thy are about 2 years old. Ingesting material can lead to an intestinal blockage which requires surgery. Heavy exercise prior to leaving may help (if it makes her tired enough to sleep all day) but a safer and more sure option in general is crate training. Dogs can be destructive in the home with their chewing. It can be harmful to the dog as well if she ingests an object she chews on. This can become a major abdominal surgery to remove the foreign object. Do your best to provide indestructible toys to satisfying her urge to chew. Oh no! If he will tolerate a crate, I would strongly consider this to help prevent him from swallowing something he shouldn’t and to prevent more damage to your house. I would also consider some calming chews like vetriscience composure and a calming collar like adaptil. If this doesn’t help, I would talk to your vet about starting him on an anti-anxiety Medicine. Pica - eating non food items - is often an indication of disease or poor digestion/absorption of her food and more rarely due to senile confusion. I would recommend a full vet check and blood panel to rule out any medical causes or indication of poor digestion (vitamin B deficiency in particular) as soon as possible
