Why is my old dog eating carpet all of a sudden? What's wrong?

She may be trying to chew on things or eat them in order to vomit, just as dogs eat grass with a stomach upset. Because it's happening at night, she could have an excess build up of bile in her stomach causing these symptoms. You can try giving her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if that helps settle her stomach. Keep her from swallowing anything, as it could cause a foreign body obstruction. Try to keep her as quiet as possible, and if the behavior continues in the morning, I would take her into the vet for an exam.

This may be a sign of gastric or intestinal pain. You should take him back for a recheck. This is called pica and needs to be investigated. Your vet will need to do blood tests, and x-rays. Mineral deficiencies and intestinal parasites have been indicated and your vet did address that. Your dog may also need a second dose of wormer. Sometimes this is caused by boredom also.
