My dog chews bedroom items at night. Any non-crate solutions?

You can try Bitter Apple spray, but I cannot guarantee that it won't stain fabrics, so you may want to spot test it first. Specifically regarding underwear, socks, etc; it is very important to get all family members to use a covered hamper so that these items are not lying around. Socks and underwear are VERY common causes of intestinal obstructions that require surgery. I understand your reservations about using a crate, however, most dogs actually like a crate, when its introduced as a safe recluse for the dog, and never as a punishment. Initially when introducing a crate, you don't close the dog in, rather get them comfortable with it as a nice place to rest. Young dogs get into a lot of mischief! I would encourage you to consider crating her at night to prevent her access to things she shouldn’t be getting into. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Beds are fine in crates as long as they are not chewed up and/or pieces aren’t swallowed that would cause an obstruction. If Jasper chews the bed then he shouldn’t have a bed in his crate. I hope this helps!

Oh no! That is so dangerous for Gucci. Confining puppies when not being observed ( such as at night), is often very important for their safety. I would encourage you to consider having him in a crate or closed off bathroom, or other safe place while you are sleeping. My own dog was crated at night for his first 2 years with us. There is nothing wrong with crate training your pet when you are out of the house, especially if he is going to be destructive to the house and/or consume things that could be very harmful to him. I recommend consulting with your veterinarian about possible medications to give Spooky when you are out to make crating easier for him. There are anti anxiety medications that can help him relax at home. I hope this is helpful!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While it may seem too simple, the best way to resolve this issue is by ignoring her when she tries to play at those times. Eventually she will learn that it is not ok to do that and will stop waking up at that time to do it. Keep in mind though that she is a puppy and is behaving like a puppy would be expected to. I would crate him at night since you cannot watch him and he is so young. Once you know that you can completely trust him (potty and getting into stuff) then I would say you can let him out of the carte and sleep with you.
