My dog chewed an empty permethrin cream tube. Is it poisonous?

The best you can do if it has been more than an hour since he ingested it is to watch for symptoms of toxicity like: tremors, seizures, ataxia (walking drunk/unsteady), extreme lethargy, vomiting, etc. If you notice any symptoms get him to an emergency clinic ASAP. As an aside, according to studies done by Zoetis who make Simparica, "In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. I'd be concerned in that if Cody ate parts of the tube, it could cause GI obstruction. In addition, the anti-fungal cream could cause some vomiting and diarrhea if there was some left in the tube. I'd monitor him for now, and if you do see any vomiting or diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he continues to have vomiting and diarrhea while withholding food or on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, I would have him seen by a vet. Hopefully though, he didn't eat any of the tube or ingest any remaining cream, and he will be just fine :-)

It is very unlikely that there would be enough residue to cause toxicity in a dog Ziggy's size as long as you are 100% certain that there was nothing left in the box. With all types of rodenticides you wouldn't necessarily see any signs of toxicity for 12-36 hours, but ingestion of the actual material would be necessary to cause toxicity. Hello, sorry to hear about Tripp. It sounds like he may be having a reaction to which ever flea medication you are administering. Often, these medications can cause tremors and trembling as a side effect or even when toxic doses are administered. Discontinue the medication, if he improves then he was likely having a side effect, but if his sigs continue or if they get worse (seizures, non-stop shaking and trembling, excessive salivation) then have him seen immediately. Other potential causes may not be associated with the medication and may be a sign of flea allergy dermatitis (allergy to the flea saliva) especially if you have seen fleas on him. Since it is unclear wether his current flea medication is giving him side effects, then your veterinarian may consider using an alternative medication. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Chlorpyrifos is a common ingredient in roach and ant traps. An average trap like this contains about 2 grams of 0.5% chlorpyrifos bait, or about 10 mg chlorpyrifos total. In a 70 pound dog, this works out to a total dose of about 0.3 mg/kg. Doses of up to 3 mg/kg (which is 10 times as much as Amber ingested) have been shown in studies to cause no significant issues. It's possible that she might have some minor stomach upset, but otherwise I would expect her to be just fine.

Oh dear! This is definitely concerning, since Merthiolate is a mercury-based compound that can be quite toxic if ingested - mercury poisoning can be a serious issue in dogs, just like humans. This is an unusual thing for a dog to ingest, so I don't have any direct experience with it and have not been able to find much information about how much would be toxic or what to expect, so I would recommend calling the ASPCA poison control hotline for more specific advice: 888-426-4435.

Common side effects of the medication include sedation and a dry skin and haircoat. Serious side effects include low blood pressure, decreased body temperature, elevation of blood glucose, dilated pupils, slow heart rate, slowed intestinal rate, ataxia, prolonged sedation, vasoconstriction, vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures. Death may occur. toxic dose depends on the amount ingested, the size of your dog and the tolerance to Amitraz. i would recommend taking him to the vet immediately just in case.
