Is it safe to give my dog small pieces of cheese daily for medication?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dogs typically do not have a complete intolerance to dairy, but as it is not a mainstay of their dietary needs, it can cause GI upset. I typically do not recommend giving dogs straight milk, and lower sugar ice creams can have artificial sugars (such as xylitol) which are toxic to dogs. Regular ice cream or cheese can be fine in small amounts but it based on each individual animal. If you want to give your dog anything dairy as a small treat, only start with one thing in very small amounts to see how Brody tolerates it and ensure he doesn't develop any vomiting/diarrhea.

Some do handle certain dairy products ok while others develop tummy upset (vomit and diarrhea). If you want to give Bruno dairy products start with small amounts to see how he handles it. If he develops tummy upset he shouldn't be fed dairy. Have a great day!

I don't consider cheese to be a bad reward in very small quantities. That entire piece of cheese is likely to be ALL the calories Draco needs for a full day. So if you are going to give any high value treat, do so in teeny tiny pieces. If you can find a kibble he really likes, I recommend giving their kibble as treats. You can feed a meal as treats through the day instead of giving it all at once. Or you can set aside 1/2 of his breakfast and give that as treats. In a dog this small you will need to be very cautious with over doing the calories in the form of treats! The metabolism of every dog is a little different, but as a rough guideline a dog Draco's size needs about 160 calories a day. So it doesn't take much to give too many calories and cause weight gain.

Cheese is not healthy for dogs, can cause loose stool, provides no nutritional value and also can make your pet overweight. I would not recommend giving cheese to your pet. Instead you can give your pet dog treats or puppy cheese (safe for pets and has less chance of causing loose stool) in a kong toy to keep him occupied. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Pepcid and Omeprazole can be given in the same day and are even safe to give together. It is also ok if he punctures the capsule, though he may not like the taste. You can try pill pockets or using canned food to give the pill in if he can tolerate that. I hope this helps!

A small amount of grated cheese may be ok but some animals have digestive issues when eating diary products. If your dog doesnt seem to have a problem with it than a small amount should be ok.

I think you might be asking if it is okay to feed your puppy cheese. While cheese is safe for dogs to eat, it is relatively high in fat and I wouldn't recommend feeding much. With any treats it is important to make sure they don't make up more than 10% of the diet for proper nutrition.
