Can I give Capstar to my dog after using Pet Armour for fleas?

Capstar is an excellent choice for getting rid of fleas quickly - it's very effective at killing any fleas that may currently be on the dog, but only lasts for 24 hours. This is why it's recommended to start another, longer-lasting flea medication at the same time, or else the fleas will just come right back. The most effective options for flea control currently available are K9 Advantix, Nexgard, or Bravecto - I would recommend getting one of these from your vet if possible, to start within 24 hours of giving the Capstar.

Unfortunately Petarmor Plus is a very poor flea treatment for dogs, and it frequently doesn't work. You can give her a bath with the flea and tick shampoo, but keep in mind it doesn't provide lasting protection. I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to give now. You can give Muffin one a day until two weeks have passed since you gave administered the Petarmor Plus. Then it's safe to use another spot on treatment such as Revolution or Advantage. Both are very effective at killing fleas. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. The Vetguard plus contains a product that is not good for killing fleas, so it makes sense why you are still seeing them. The Petarmor is a totally different product, so it's safe to use and has ingredients that are good at killing fleas. I'd recommend trying that product and seeing how it goes. Capstar can safely be used with Frontline. That said, switching to a different topical (they can become ineffective after a while of use) or addressing the house, bedding, etc for places flea eggs can sit may help reduce reinfestation in the future.

You can use both products on the same day so it is fine to start the Advantix at any time. There are better products that Advantix. Top products for dogs are oral products such as Simparica and Nexgard. Top products for cats are topicals such as Revolution and Cheristan. There is also an oral product called Comfortis that both dogs and cats can take. You will need to switch all the pets over to a good flea product. Make sure to discuss these products with your veterinarian first. These products are generally safe for all pets but there are some conditions which are contraindicated for the oral products. Cleaning up and treating the house and yard will also help but it will not clear all the fleas. The main control is making sure the pets are on good products. This is what will ultimately stop the infestation. Also remember every female fleas lays about 50 eggs a day and it could take up to 6 months before the eggs hatch. Good morning! Capstar is generally thought to be effective for 24-48 hours, so I don't think you need to give another Capstar if you gave one last night. The nexgaurd should not interact negatively with the spot-on product or bath because they work differently. If you are having difficulty with fleas in your pets then you may also need to treat your home and possibly your yard. Vacuum all floors (including wood floors) and furniture and throw the contents in the trash outside, wash all pet pedding in hot water if possible and put in hot dryer. I would refrain from reapplying this topical product, because you cannot be sure how much of it was rinsed off and it is best to not overdose him. Also the biting and scratching can be normal for any pet that has just received flea preventative if there was a large infestation of fleas. The "itch cascade" as we call it can last even after the parasites are gone, and often pets require a short course of steroids or a steroid shot to stop the itch completely. Your best option at this point, if you still see evidence of fleas or ticks, is to follow up with a medication called Capstar.
