My dog has bumps and hives after a scratch. Is it allergies?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poo Chevy! It is likely that the bumps are hives and Chevy is suffering from an allergic reaction. Sometime we never know the inciting cause but insects or environmental allergens are the most common, unless he is receiving medications or was recently vaccinated (in the last 24 hours). The standard treatment for hives is benadryl and steroids. Ideally you should have him seen by your Vet. It looks like Boo could be suffering from an allergic reaction causing hives. The problem with an allergic reaction is that it can quickly progress to swelling of the face and snout, leading to respiratory distress. I would take her into a vet immediately to get treatment for the hives. Best of luck.

If Oscar is having allergy issues I would consider discussing Apoquel with your veterinarian. This is an allergy medication that works very well for dogs. The spots you are referring to may either be hives or a secondary skin infection. WIthout seeing them it is hard to say exactly what they are. Your vet can recommend a dose of Benadryl, which is an antihistamine. It's not legal for me to recommend specific doses since I haven't examined Boau. If the hives don't get better, then I would take him to a vet.

Poor baby! Yes, these appear to be hives most likely from an allergic reaction. I would give her 50mg benadryl by mouth and see how she does. If she gets more, starts vomiting, having diarrhea, or trouble breathing I would get her right away. Good luck. She is adorable
