My dog has bumps on his groin after tick fever treatment. What is it?

To be sure and get a diagnosis, I would have Scooby checked out by a vet. Tick bites can cause a local reaction, sometimes it shows up as a small pimple or a scab, but rarely something the size I would call a lump. Tick fever itself does not usually cause lumps in the skin. Other possible causes for a lump in this area include a lipoma (fatty tumor), seroma from trauma, an abscess, or another type of tumor.

He could have "Schnauzer pyoderma" which is a skin infection, he could have a bacterial infection, he could have a local irritation such is an allergic reaction, or he could even have the start of a fungal infection. Sometimes a medicated pet shampoo helps other times oral antibiotics are needed. It is unlikely to be related to the tick. I would watch him for any signs of lateness are limping or pain as there are some diseases that could be spread by tick bites.

Luna's skin lesions look more consistent with the papules and pustules that can develop with a bacterial infection of the skin. Skin infections typically develop secondarily to allergies and can be quite itchy, which only serves to worsen an infection. At this point, Luna should go to her vet because she most likely needs a course of antibiotics to manage this condition. Also be sure that she is receiving a high quality flea preventative (such as Advantix, Nexgard or Bravecto) regularly because some dogs are allergic to even 1-2 flea bites, which can ultimately result in a skin infection. Generally, tick-borne diseases cause non-specific signs such as fever, decreased appetite, swollen lymph nodes, and lethargy within the first 4 weeks after a tick bite. Dogs can get a skin infection or irritation from a tick bite - it is hard to tell exactly what they look like without a photo - but if you are concerned have your veterinarian take a look. And if you notice that he is not feeling well, take him to a vet right away. In the future definitely plan to use a veterinarian-approved tick product and check Hogan for ticks every time he comes inside.

There are a few causes for the bumps you are seeing. Fleas are still a possibility. Bravecto is an excellent preventative, but it can still take 3 months for all of the fleas in Elli Mae's environment to die. She could still have a bacterial infection. Sometimes these infections need a second antibiotic or a longer round to effectively treat. I have occasionally used antibiotics for 3-4 weeks to get infection under control.
