My dog has bumps on his groin after tick fever treatment. What is it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

Dog was diagnosed with tick fever. Was treated for 30 days now has bumps that look like bites or pustules around groin. Have not seen a tick in over a month. Could this be unrelated? Is this likely the tick fever and it hasn't cleared up. One of my other dogs had a similar mark once about 2 weeks ago, the other 2 dogs have had no issues. Help!

This looks like a bacterial skin infection. It is not very likely to be related to the tick issue. Sometimes a medicated shampoo bath helps clear this up but other times oral antibiotics are needed. If this is not gotten better in the next 1 to 2 days I would contact your veterinarian to discuss antibiotics for Opie.
