My dog has a bump above his eye. When should I worry or treat it?

As long as Chief is not showing any other symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. then I would just monitor this for now and see if these go down on their own. If more begin to show up, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendation can be made. I hope this helps! It may just be a stye or even an insect bite. As long as it isn't bothering him, I wouldn't be worried about it and just recommend monitoring it. A lot of times these go away on their own. However, if it is bothering him I would recommend placing an e-collar on him to prevent him from rubbing his face for now, then get him seen by your vet for medications to help it resolve. Good morning. The bump on Toby's nose could be due to a number of things including an insect bite, inflammation, infection or less likely, a tumor. If the bump is not resolving within a few days, if it enlarges or if Toby develops any new symptoms such as nasal discharge, sneezing or lethargy, he should be seen by a veterinarian.

It may be a cyst or local infection/irritation. Monitor for rapid change or growth, discharge or bleeding as well as discomfort. Ideally, he can be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause and provide the appropriate treatment. If he is pawing or rubbing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the vet.

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bumps on eye-lids can be cysts, but they can also be other masses like tumors. For this reason getting it checked is recommended. In the mean-time, I would check for squinting, moving away from your hand when you go to pet him on that side of the face, redness/blueness/whiteness of the eye-ball itself that is different from the other eye, or scratching/pawing at the eye. If any of these are occuring, then I would take Marley to a vet. If he isn't too concerned about it, and isn't squinting or moving away from you, and is only minimally pawing at it, then I would recommend getting an E-collar (you can pick one up from any emergency clinic without an appointment as it is now late in Australia), to prevent ongoing trauma to the eye which can get much much worse with scratching. I would then get Marley to your vet in the morning. Best of luck with Marley.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It very definitely can be an allergic reaction to a sting or bite. If it is not bothering him, then there is probably not too much to worry about, You can apply a cold compress to the area ( a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel works well ) for 5-10 minutes every hour or so, but if he begins whining, scratching his face, or pawing at his eyes, you may need to run him in to your vet for steroids, &/or antihistamines. Hopefully, it will start to go down soon. Take care.
